After years of spraying my lawn with Sethoxydim weed killer, I have been successful in reducing some areas of Torpedo Grass infestation to small isolated spots. Rather than continue (seemingly forever) spraying the same spots over and over I decided I might be able to just dig them up and finally be able to say that area is clean!
Here is such a spot. What appears to be just a couple of sprigs of Torpedo Grass is anchored by a large rhizome beneath.
So, I used a hand spade to dig beneath the sod, loosen the dirt and remove the rhizome.
After removing the rhizome I replant the sod and for the first time in years I have an area completely free of Torpedo Grass. Exposing that Torpedo Grass rhizome to a few days of hot south Louisiana sun on the patio where I can enjoy watching it die will turn it into dust. A good goodbye.

And there it is! |
Free at last, free at last! Well, at least this spot is free of Torpedo Grass.
